Hybrid solar power and wood coupling on a house in Chabeuil (FR)

Mathieu realized that combining DualSun with an ÖkoFEN wood-fired boiler was the right choice.

Made up of 4 DualSun hybrid panels and 8 photovoltaic solar panels, his solar installation is well optimized thanks to a very logical coupling that plays on the complementarity of the two systems.

In winter, when the sun is more timid, the boiler will make up the difference, while in summer the solar panels will make up the entire contribution.

A look back at this project completed in 2014 ⬇

Like many of our customers, Mathieu explored several solutions to choose the best configuration. When he had to re-roof, he re-insulated. The idea of replacing his tiles with solar panels was then obvious.

Solar + boiler: an excellent way to get through the winter

With his available m², Mathieu had to choose between a CESI or PV system. The Dualsun solution provided the answer to his m² problem, while offering a real technical plus. He opted for our DualSun 2-in-1 panels because they optimized his southern exposure and offered excellent yields per m2. The fact that DualSun was labelled a “French innovation” was the icing on the cake!

The idea of coupling the solar system with an ÖkoFEN wood-fired boiler was then discussed with the installer.

In fact, ÖkoFEN offers a competitive, ecological boiler that runs exclusively on wood pellets, providing fully automated, high-performance central heating.

Unlike oil, gas or uranium, wood pellets are a natural, renewable energy source that will continue to be available for generations to come, at prices that defy all competition.

Tax bonus

Mathieu was eligible for tax breaks on the work package for his roof renovation. These incentives led him to opt for renewable energies in general, and DualSun in particular.

With the work package, he chose to use the EcoPTZ. Since he carried out 3 projects (insulation, DualSun panels, ÖkoFEN boiler), he obtained a €30,000 loan from the Caisse d’Epargne (for 2 projects, that’s €20,000). He was also able to benefit from the Certificats d’Economies d’Energie (CEE) for his various works.

System monitoring

Thermal performance of DualSun panels

The DualSun panels were installed in July 2014.

On average over the year, the solar coverage rate for the Boselli installation is estimated at 50%.

Photovoltaic performance of DualSun panels

Thanks to the use of SolarEdge optimizers, we can monitor the photovoltaic performance of the panels individually. In particular, we can compare the photovoltaic performance of the 4 DualSun panels with that of the 8 photovoltaic panels.

Thanks to cell cooling, the DualSun panel produces 5.4% more electricity than the photovoltaic panel.

Over the course of a year, Mathieu’s energy mix will undergo a remarkable “before” and “after” period. Estimates show a 97% reduction in his CO2 emissions (from 7,097 kg Co2 to 193 kg Co2) and 69% savings on his energy bill (from €2,808 to €883)!

Thanks to his sustainable equipment and the choice of a DualSun coupling with a wood-fired boiler, Mathieu will considerably improve his energy bill. Whatever the weather forecast in the Drôme, he’s preparing for a particularly mild winter in his house.
