DualSun’s commitment to the energy transition
Photovoltaic solar power is developing exponentially throughout the world
The price of PV solar power, which is increasingly competitive with traditional energy sources, is enabling it to become the preferred renewable energy source for homes and buildings. However, photovoltaic solar is not enough on its own, because buildings also need heat: both for heating and to meet the demand for domestic hot water.
Heating is an important challenge for the 21st century.
Our mission at DualSun is to manufacture solar systems that offer both electricity and heat to make our homes and buildings energy independent from fossil fuels.
To achieve our mission, DualSun has set 3 priorities:
1. Innovate for the eco-design of solar panels
DualSun is a French manufacturer with an obsession to make sustainable and efficient solar panels with the least possible impact on the environment. We evaluate the entire life cycle of our panels to minimize their CO2 emissions while meeting the growing demand. Learn more about our manufacturing choices:
2. Contribute actively to the development of the solar industry
DualSun does not see itself as simply a solar panel manufacturer. In order to sustainably meet the explosive demand of the solar market, the industry needs human infrastructure.
For DualSun, we believe that one of our roles is to accompany our solar installers, train them, train new installers and participate in national and international projects to accelerate the development of the solar sector.
3. Provide an unparalleled experience from A to Z for our customers
DualSun sells containers of solar panels to distributors around the world.
Beyond containers, a priority that differentiates DualSun from other manufacturers is our focus on our end-users. We are determined that each customer has the best solar installation for their needs, that they understand each step of the process with clarity, and when the installation is complete, they are confident and proud of their DualSun solar installation.
That’s why DualSun invests so much in MyDualSun, our platform that allows us to accompany users from A to Z throughout the entire project, from design to after-sales service.
The early days of DualSun
DualSun is the product of two very different personalities coming together, driven by the same obsession for innovation and access to a clean energy world. Jérôme Mouterde and Laetitia Brottier first met in a scientific prep school.
Their paths crossed again two years later while classmates at Centrale Paris, one of the top engineering schools in France.
Centrale provided Laetitia and Jérôme a springboard to endeavor on diverse entrepreneurial projects, both individual and together, and to affirm their aspiration to choose professional paths with significant societal impact.
DualSun started in the offices of Centrale Paris in 2008. After signing a partnership with a CNRS laboratory in Marseille specialized in energy, the duo moved to Marseille in 2009 and the team grew. The DualSun company was created in 2010 and the first DualSun panel was installed in August 2011.
The evolution of DualSun over the years
2010 – 2011 : Creation of the company and the first installations
The DualSun project began in Paris, but quickly moved to Marseille to be closer to its partner research laboratory. DualSun joined the IMPULSE incubator in April 2010, and the founding partners were laureates “Emergence” of the Réseau Entreprendre PACA. DualSun filed a first patent on its heat exchanger in November 2010 and presented its hybrid panel to the public for the first time at the Energaïa international trade show in December 2010.
Martel, Carré, Kahn, Bonnafous: the names of the first pioneers to install DualSun in 2011. Thanks to their trust, DualSun successfully completes its first installations.
2012 – 2013: Industrialization, 1st round of funding and certifications
Following the pilot installations carried out in 2011, the year 2012 was dedicated to the industrialization of the DualSun panel. The company did its first round of fundraising in December 2012. It allows the company to finance European certifications for the hybrid panel, to install 20 pilot projects with remote monitoring, and to develop MyDualSun, the simulation platform.
After a 10-month certification phase at the TÜV Rheinland laboratory in Germany, the DualSun panels passed all the required tests and were certified as meeting the best quality standards on the market. At the end of 2013, the DualSun solar panel became the first hybrid panel in the world to be Solar Keymark certified!
2014 – 2016 : Commercial launch and 2nd round of financing
DualSun officially launched commercially in January 2014. A first reference installation with 180 panels was completed at the Bouygues Construction headquarters. A second round of financing for a total amount of €1.3M was raised in June 2014 to support the commercial launch and recruit the first sales team.
In 2015 and 2016, DualSun continued commercial growth in France and Switzerland, and was distinguished by the Deloitte Fast 50 award as the cleantech start-up with the best growth over this period. Its sales network in France expanded and the company launched in Switzerland where it achieved 25% of its revenues in 2016.
2017 – 2019 : International development, 3rd fundraising, “Poseurs d’Avenir”, Made in France label
In 2017, DualSun released a 2nd version of its DualSun panel, called SPRING, which was more efficient and less expensive than the first model. In parallel, DualSun launched in Italy and entered the Australian market. A third round of financing of €2.4 million was raised to continue the international commercial development.
In 2018, DualSun counted over 800 installations worldwide, 17 employees and 5 international patents. At the same time, DualSun launched its new multi-energy offer with world leader Daikin in France and its solar pool heating offer with Supreme Heating in Australia.
In 2019, DualSun launched the “Poseurs d’Avenir” professional training program for solar installers in partnership with BAO Formation and Engie. That year, DualSun also obtained the Made in France label for the DualSun SPRING solar panel.
2020 – 2022 : Solar Impulse, Vitrine du Futur and Top Brand PV 2021 labels, a new €10M fundraising and exponential growth
In 2020, DualSun was awarded the Solar Impulse label, a label that recognizes 1,000 positive-impact companies that combine environmental protection and financial profitability.
In 2020 and 2021, DualSun received the “Vitrine Industrie du Futur” (“Future Industry Showcase”) label for its manufacturing site and industrial project. The label is awarded to the most committed industry leaders in France in their transformation.
In 2021 and 2022, DualSun also received the Top Brand PV label for its Flash photovoltaic panel. The awarding of this label propels DualSun to the rank of the best photovoltaic panel brands available on the market.
Over the past three years, DualSun’s sales have increased sevenfold and in mid-2022, DualSun has successfully raised €10 million in new capital to become one of the leading European solar manufacturers.
By the end of 2022, DualSun has over 6000 solar installations worldwide.
